We will also be covering tips for creating a website, social media presence, and content that brings trust back to nonprofits. Sign up for our course here.

Step 1: Create Brand

  • Create a Brand – Creating your brand from your logo, to your website, to your social media presence is the first step in marketing your organization. Create a personality that appeals to the emotions of your volunteers and donors.

    1. Logo- When donors see your logo they feel a sense of trust and warmth. You want to create a color scheme and fonts that you want to use. This will create consistency through all of your platforms.

    2. Picture Your Ideal Target Audience – Write down qualities that your potential donor has and picture what they would be interested in. This helps you create content that appeals directly to that donor and increases your donations.

  • Investing in a Website – Your website is the most important piece of your online presence. It allows you to provide in-depth information about your non-profit, giving a behind-the-scenes look into the good you are doing. Your website should guide people to the channels that help them get involved. Whether that is volunteering their time, or donating money/other supplies.

Step 2: Drive Traffic

  • Apply For Google Ad Grant – Google offers a $10,000/month advertising grant for nonprofits. This grant is for Google Search Advertising and is a game-changer for nonprofits.  The eligibility requirements and application process can be found here

  • Social Media Posting – THIS IS YOUR BIGGEST TOOL IN COMMUNICATING! Generating a social media following will provide you with a source of revenue for years to come. It is important that you provide this following with actionable items for example a GoFund me or Volunteer Sign up. Platforms include Facebook, Instagram, Tiktok, etc.

Step 3: Lasting Relationships

  • Create Appealing Content- Once you have created an ecosystem of people that want to get involved through volunteering or donations you need to share the past, present, and future impact you intend to make. Share stories of volunteers, people you help, and people on your team. When you create content keep in mind that nonprofits should create content (videos, images, articles) that appeals to the emotions of their audience.

    1. Videos – Videos that appeal to the emotions of your target audience are a very powerful way to market your nonprofit. A video that features your logo, people actively volunteering, and people that are being helped by your cause will drive more volunteers and donations.

    2. Email Marketing – Start building an email list through marketing. Segment out the list to grow donations women/male/ages/geographical location/behaviors/interests. You want to focus on growing a relationship with donors and volunteers. Email marketing is a great way to grow donations year- after- year as well.

    3. Social Media – Create posts that engage an audience and share success stories with volunteers and share stories of the people you help in the community.

Step 4: Always Be Open to New Things

  • Create NFT’s For Your Cause – NFT’s are a relatively new technological development that can help your business find a younger audience. NFT’s are digital artworks that can only be owned by one person. These artworks can also be used as a certificate of membership in your nonprofit program. Nonprofit causes have found a beneficial way of using NFT’s in tandem with #5 on our list (ex. Adopting a child or animal when you buy the NFT).
